Introducing the 2025 VIA Compensation Survey Report

By:
Jenna Borowski
Head of Community

Since 2017, we've conducted an annual compensation survey for our community. Year after year, our members have told us it's one of the most valuable resources we provide—the data they need to negotiate offers, prepare for reviews, and understand their market value.

But here's what we also consistently hear from people outside our community: “I don't know if I'm being paid fairly. I don't know what's standard. I don't have the data to advocate for myself.:

That's why this year, we're doing something different.

We're thrilled to release the 2025 VIA Compensation Survey Report, and for the first time, we're making it publicly available.

Why We're Going Public

Since our earliest days as Let's Talk Ops (now VIA), compensation transparency has been core to our mission. We've conducted surveys annually, shared anonymized data with members, and created spaces for honest conversations about pay, equity, and value. For nearly a decade, this work has helped our community negotiate better offers, understand their market value, and push for the compensation they deserve.

But we realized that keeping this data behind membership walls, while valuable for our community, wasn't serving our bigger purpose: raising the bar for an entire profession.

Operators and platform professionals everywhere deserve to know their worth. They deserve data they can bring to compensation conversations. They deserve benchmarks that reflect the strategic, high-impact work they do every day—whether they're part of VIA or not.

So this year, we're releasing our report publicly because transparency shouldn't be a luxury. It should be a baseline.

Partnership with People Function

We couldn't have done this without our partner, People Function. As one of our valued sponsors, People Function shares our commitment to elevating operations talent and bringing data-driven insights to the venture ecosystem. Their support made it possible to expand the scope of this year's report, deepen our analysis, and ultimately, make it accessible to the broader community.

This partnership reflects what we believe: that the best work happens when we collaborate, share resources, and lift the entire field together.

What's Inside the Report

This year's findings paint a picture of a profession at an inflection point. Operators are stepping into larger strategic roles, directly shaping firm performance and culture. Yet even as their influence expands, the data reveals complexity: broader responsibilities, longer workweeks, and a growing appetite for professional development and work-life balance.

The report covers:

  • Compensation benchmarks across roles, geographies, and firm sizes
  • Equity structures and how they vary by seniority and firm stage
  • Benefits, bonuses, and non-cash compensation trends
  • Workload realities and what operators are prioritizing in their careers

It's more than a salary guide. It's a snapshot of ambition in action—a testament to the operators who don't just support the future of venture capital, but actively build it.

What VIA Members Get

While the full report is publicly available, VIA members receive something extra: access to the anonymized raw data. This means you can filter by your specific geography, firm size, role type, and other demographic details to pull even more precise benchmarks that reflect your unique situation.

This has always been one of the most valuable membership benefits—the ability to go deeper than top-line findings and get data that's truly tailored to your circumstances.

If you're interested in membership and want access to this raw data—plus our year-round programming, mentorship, resources, and community—you can learn more and apply at join-via.com/membership.

Our Hope for This Report

We hope this report becomes a tool. A conversation starter. A reference point that helps you walk into your next review, your next negotiation, or your next job interview with confidence.

We hope it signals to GPs and managing partners that the work operators do is strategic, measurable, and worth investing in.

And we hope it reminds you—whether you're in our community or not—that you're not alone in wondering if you're being compensated fairly. You're part of a growing profession that's finding its voice, claiming its influence, and demanding its seat at the table.
